“One Florida” Helmet Decal

The “One Florida” helmet decal was created in the fall of 2017 to showcase the state’s resiliency following the devastation of Hurricane Irma. The decal became a uniform addition to Florida’s three NFL franchises, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins. Soon after the launch of this initiative, collegiate and professional teams throughout the state joined in on this act of solidarity, showcasing Florida’s ability to persevere, despite effects of the storm. Design Process

This project was a rapid response to a real-time event, with the entire design process unfolding in just a few hours. After getting approval, we had to quickly send the design to local vendors for decal printing, ensuring they arrived on time for the equipment managers to apply them to the helmets for the upcoming game. It was a fast-paced, sprint-like operation. My process involved sketching multiple iterations of the idea before swiftly transitioning into the final design phase.

Application

On September 17, 2017, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins debuted the “One Florida” decals on their helmets. Shortly after, collegiate and professional teams across Florida joined in. It was inspiring to witness teams across the state come together during such a difficult time. What started as a simple gesture turned into an organic movement, showcasing the powerful support for Florida and its communities as they recovered from Hurricane Irma.
